Zantedeschia aethiopica

(L.) Spreng. 1826

Actually it does not come from Ethiopia, but from the South Africa.
Grows wild at swamps drying in summer, in culture it should also be dormant in summer months.
Z. aethiopica is 40-70 cm tall with inflorescence.

The leaves are fresh light green, with slightly shiny adaxial surface.
The blade is very thin with a fleshy, depressed midrib. The venation in the whole Zantedeschia genus is pinnate.
From the abaxial side the midrib is distinctly convex.
The petioles of the pure species are light green, very frangible. Sometimes they break under its own burden.

The scent is very pleasant to humans.	The spadix is pale yellow.

	<= The leaf blade can be 15 to 30 cm in height. The rhizome. =>
	Z. aethiopica can be cultivated in gardens in Poland. Yet it sends the leaves forth in the late May. And blooms rarely. Sometimes in October it does. This one was growing outdoors three years. The winter of 2002/2003 has killed it.
