The Genus Arisaema comprises about 180 tuberous species mainly from Eastern Asia,
but also from Africa and Northern America. Many of them are frost-hardy.
The genus belongs to the subfamily Aroideae, tribe Arisaemateae.
Most of them produce male and female inflorescences separately.
